Press Conference Tomorrow: Recovery Act Dollars 'Going to Work' in East Oakland

Details below on an exciting press event tomorrow that will unveil local details of national stimulus funding that will benefit Oakland and the greater Bay Area.  If you're unable to attend but would still like to cover the story please let me know and I can send an e-media kit upon its release.

Recovery Act Funding ‘Going to Work’ in East Oakland

U.S. EPA, Oakland Housing Authority, Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums and DTSC will host a joint press conference and visual media tour to unveil details during press event tomorrow

WHAT:  Communities across the nation will share an estimated $111.9 million in EPA Brownfields grants.  These grants will help revitalize former industrial and commercial sites, turning them from problem properties into vital, functioning parts of their communities.  In Alameda County, seven projects will receive Brownfields grants.  Nationally, the grants include $37.3 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 that President Obama signed into law on February 17, 2009, and $74.6 million from the EPA brownfields general program funding.     

WHO:  Key federal, state and local officials will be on-hand to discuss how this latest Recovery Act funding will benefit Oakland and Alameda County.  Environmental contractors and Lion Creek residents will also be available for interviews. 

WHERE:  Lion Creek Park, 6888 Lion Way in Oakland, CA, (Lion Way at 69th Street). The event is in the Lion Creek Crossings Housing Development (formerly Coliseum Gardens).  The site is just north east of the Coliseum BART station.

 EVENT TIMELINE - Wednesday, May 13, 2009

10:45 a.m. - Media check -in

Press conference will begin at 11:00 a.m. with remarks from key speakers.  Remarks to be followed by:   

  • Informal Q & A session with key officials and Lion Creek residents
  • Site tours of two Lion Creek homes
  • Environmental contractors will be on-site at the parcel where Phase 4 will break ground later this summer to discuss the soil contamination and cleanup

·        Unique Lion Creek Crossings housing development package includes rental apartments for a mix of incomes.
