EPA Administrator Meets with Gulf Region Scientists on BP Oil Spill

WASHINGTON – On U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa P. Jackson’s recent trip to the gulf region, she met with scientists from local academic institutions and non-governmental organizations, and received a number of briefings from agencies responding to the BP oil spill. On Monday, May 10, she held a meeting with Louisiana State University scientists and discussed BP’s use of dispersants, EPA’s ongoing air and water monitoring and the ecological impacts of the BP spill.

The administrator’s tour continued on Tuesday, May 11 in New Orleans with more briefings with Tulane University scientists and community organizations to discuss the ongoing efforts to mitigate the spill’s impact on the region.

This was the administrator’s second visit to the gulf region since the BP oil spill began. Jackson also visited the gulf region from April 30 through May 2, and EPA Deputy Administrator Bob Perciasepe traveled to the region late last week.
