Three Virginia Students Win EPA Earth Day Poster Contest

 

            (PHILADELPHIA – May 6, 2010) – Three Virginia students were among the winners of an Earth Day poster contest sponsored by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency mid-Atlantic region and the Philadelphia Zoo.

 

Jared Brossman, a second-grader at Lucketts Elementary School in Leesburg, Va., took honors in the “Endangered Species” category for students in kindergarten through grade two.

 

Max Tate, a second-grader at Elon Elementary School, in Madison Heights, Va., took honors in the “Climate Change” category for kindergarten through grade two.

 

Lulu Lynham, a fourth-grader at the Waterford Elementary School in Lovettsville, Va., took honors in the “Meaning of Earth Day” category for grades three through five.

 

The winning posters can be viewed on the EPA website at http://www.epa.gov/region03/ee/posters2010/ .

 

The contest was for students in kindergarten through grade 12 in EPA’s mid-Atlantic region, which includes Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.  Students submitted hand-created drawings in three categories. Winning entries and others were displayed at the Philadelphia Zoo for EPA’s 40^th anniversary Earth Day celebration.  Many posters continue to be displayed at the EPA’s Public Information Center in Philadelphia.
