WHAT: U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lisa P. Jackson will travel to Kansas City, Mo., with members of the Congressional Black Caucus, Chairwoman Barbara Lee (CA-09), First Vice Chairman Emanuel Cleaver (MO-05) and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX), to meet with local officials and community leaders on Environmental Justice issues. The tour includes a visit to the Green Impact Zone project, an initiative designed to transform a 150-square block area of the city hard hit by abandonment, unemployment, and foreclosure into an economically vibrant and environmentally healthy neighborhood.
Administrator Jackson will also join NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous to discuss EPA and NAACP collaboration on the ongoing response to the Gulf oil spill. Members of the Congressional Black Caucus and EPA Administrator Jackson will also host a panel on environmental justice with local leaders and community members.
