EPA Grant to Help Green the Port of Pittsburgh,

Significantly Reducing Diesel Emissions

 

WHAT:           EPA will present a $1.15 million grant to the Port of Pittsburgh Commission to help fund the repowering of four marine towing vessels with new, more efficient diesel engines and generators that will reduce air pollution, improve air quality and lessen overall environmental impacts.   The Port of Pittsburgh Commission and three participating companies will provide $1.9 million for the repowering project.

Barbara McNees, chair, Port of Pittsburgh Commission and president, Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce

                        George Jugovic, Jr., regional director, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Southwest Regional Office

                        Dr. Bruce Dixon, director, Allegheny County Health Department          

                       

WHERE:        The Explorer, Pittsburgh’s floating environmental classroom

At the River Quest RiverQuest Dock

One Allegheny Avenue, North Shore

 

The boat will remain docked throughout the event.

VISUAL:        In addition to being on the river, marine vessels that will be repowered can be seen from the Explorer.
