(Kansas City, Kan., Oct. 25, 2011) - In recognition of Children’s Health Month, EPA Region 7 will hold a forum on Thursday, Oct. 27, in Kansas City, Kan., regarding children’s health disparities and the local efforts underway to address them.

 

Federal Executive Order 13045 identified the protection of children’s health a priority for all federal agencies. EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson has confirmed EPA’s commitment to the goal of protecting children’s health by incorporating it into EPA’s strategic plan as well as her seven priorities.

 

The goals of this forum will be to inform participants of:

 

  • The relationship between children’s health and environmental contamination/protection
  • The relationship between children’s health and environmental justice; that is, the disparities between minority children’s health and non-minority children’s health as it relates to environmental health
  • Current information regarding the state of children’s health in Region 7 with an emphasis on issues specific to minority children’s health disparities


WHAT: Children’s Health Disparities Forum

 

WHEN: From 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., October 27, 2011

 

WHERE: EPA Regional Office, Room 2240, 901 N. 5th Street, Kansas City, Kan., 66101

 

The forum will be facilitated by an EPA employee and consist of three speakers: Dr. Jennifer Lowry with Children’s Mercy Hospital and the Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit (PEHSU); Hilda Fuentes, CEO of Samuel U. Rogers Health Center; and Melissa Robinson President/CEO of Black Health Care Coalition. After each speaker has concluded her remarks, audience members will be able to engage the panel in a question and answer session.
