Redevelopment of sites creates local jobs and greenspace

(Washington, D.C. – May 29, 2009)  On Tuesday, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lisa P. Jackson will announce $1 million in funding to the City of Atlanta, Ga., to support the clean up of sites known as brownfields along the Atlanta BeltLine and other redevelopment corridors. The funds will be used to turn 10 local sites, contaminated by hazardous chemicals or pollutants, into productive properties.  This move will help spur redevelopment, secure jobs and create greenspace.
