TMDL ‘Pollution Diet’ Meetings Set for W. Va.
Webinar Access at Martinsburg Session
PHILADELPHIA (October 30, 2009) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold two public meetings in West Virginia next week to discuss the Chesapeake Bay Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) – a strict “pollution diet” to restore the Chesapeake Bay and its vast network of local rivers, streams and creeks.
The first meeting will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 4 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Robert C. Byrd Health Science Center, 2500 Foundation Way, Martinsburg, W.Va. Live computer access to the presentations and audio from the Martinsburg meeting will be available via webinar.
The second meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 5 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Moorefield High School, 401 N. Main Street, Moorefield, W.Va. There will not be a webinar for this meeting.
EPA will hold 15 public meetings on the Chesapeake Bay TMDL throughout the watershed’s six states and the District of Columbia from early November through mid-December 2009. A complete list of the meetings, along with driving directions to each location, is available at www.epa.gov/chesapeakebaytmdl. A registration link for the Martinsburg webinar can also be found at the web site.
The Chesapeake Bay TMDL will establish and assign the pollution reductions necessary to meet clean water standards. The TMDL will be supported by performance and accountability features to ensure needed actions are taken.
