Grants News Release (Region 6): Louisiana Addresses Water Quality in Tensas River

Louisiana Addresses Water Quality in Tensas River

(DALLAS – April 26, 2011)  The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded $130,402 to the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality to improve water quality in the Tensas River, located in north-east area of the state. Specifically, the project will reduce nonpoint source pollutants by installing grassed filter strips that will filter sediment.

The Clean Water Act (CWA) allows EPA the ability to help states and local jurisdictions address nonpoint source pollution efforts. EPA provides support through a wide variety of activities including technical assistance, financial assistance, educational training and monitoring to evaluate the success of specific nonpoint source implementation projects.
