EPA Awarded $400,000 to Assess Contaminated Sites in Greenville, Texas

 

(DALLAS – Sept. 30, 2010)  The City of Greenville, Texas will receive two $200,000 grants from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to develop its Brownfields program.  The funds will be used to assess sites contaminated by hazardous and petroleum substances.    

 

The project will enable the City of Greenville to identify, inventory, characterize, assess, and conduct planning related to Brownfields properties.  The project will also keep local citizens informed with outreach activities as the properties are moved towards reuse and redevelopment.   

 

EPA's investment in the Brownfields program has resulted in many accomplishments, including leveraging more than $14.0 billion in Brownfields cleanup and redevelopment funding from the private and public sectors by leveraging more than 60,000 jobs.  The Brownsfields program and its partners have provided guidance and incentives to support economic revitalization and empower communities to address the contaminated sites.

 

EPA's Brownfield Program continues to look to the future by expanding the types of properties it addresses, forming new partnerships and undertaking new initiatives to help revitalize communities across the nation.
