U.S. EPA to hold public meeting on proposed denial of Guam wastewater treatment plants' waivers
Meeting to be held on June 3, comments accepted on tentative decisions for Agana and Northern District plants until June 30

     HONOLULU – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will be holding a public meeting on
June 3, on the proposal to deny renewal of the permit variances that exempt the Agana and Northern District wastewater treatment plants from full secondary treatment requirements.

The public workshop and hearing are scheduled at the following times and location: 

Date:  Wednesday, June 3, 2009
Time:  6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Public Workshop
          7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.  Public Hearing

     The Agana and Northern District plants are currently operating under variances from secondary treatment. If the EPA’s proposal becomes final, the plants will be required to upgrade to full secondary treatment.

     The EPA’s tentative decisions are available for public comment through June 30, 2009.  Persons wishing to comment on one or both of the tentative decisions must submit their comments at the public hearing or in writing by the close of the public comment period on June 30, 2009. Comments may be submitted in person or by mail to the attention of Richard Remigio at 75 Hawthorne St., WTR-5, San Francisco, CA 94105, or by email to R9-ND-301h-Comments@epa.gov regarding Northern District STP or R9-Agana-301h-Comments@epa.gov regarding Agana STP. At the completion of the public comment period, the EPA will consider all public comments and make final decisions on the variance applications.
