Crow Wing County Citizens Invited to Comment on Proposed Waste Injection Well Permit

CHICAGO (May 27, 2010) — U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 has invited Crow Wing County, Minn., and surrounding area residents to comment on a proposed permit for a waste injection well.

The public comment period will run through June 25.

EPA has proposed issuing an injection well permit to Cooperative Mineral Resources of Brainerd so that it can test the feasibility of injecting water underground to mine iron-manganese ore. EPA seeks comments from the public before making a final decision on the permit.

You can read details about the proposed plan in a fact sheet posted on the Web at http://www.epa.gov/reg5oh2o/uic/uicpub.htm. Official records can also be examined at the Outing Volunteer Library, 6300 Woods Bay Drive Northeast, Outing.

Direct comments to Leslie Patterson, permit writer, Underground Injection Control Branch, EPA Region 5 (WU-16J), 77 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, IL 60604-3590, or to patterson.leslie@epa.gov.
