  EPA Awards $130,000 for Emergency Response along U.S.-Mexico Border

(DALLAS – October 21, 2010)   The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded $130,000 to the Border Environment Cooperation Commission (BECC) to update emergency response plans for Texas and Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas states in Mexico.  The project is part of the U.S.-Mexico Environmental Program, Border 2012.  The project is a cooperative agreement to prepare and respond to oil and hazardous substance incidents along the U.S.-Mexico inland border.  The project extends from Eagle Pass/Piedras Negras to Del Rio/Ciudad Acuna.  

 

Border 2012 is a collaboration between the United States and Mexico to improve the environment and protect the health of nearly 12 million people living along the border.  The bi-national program focuses on cleaning the air, providing safe drinking water, reducing the risk of exposure to hazardous waste and ensuring emergency preparedness along the U.S.-Mexico border.
