Warwick, R.I. Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent Recognized for Outstanding Service

(Boston, Mass. – Jan. 27, 2011) – Joel Burke, Superintendent of the Warwick, R.I. Wastewater Treatment Plant was recently honored with the "2010 Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Award" by EPA.

EPA’s New England office formally acknowledged Mr. Burke’s contributions during the annual New England Water Environment Association Conference at the Boston Copley Marriott Hotel on January 26th. Mr. Burke’s nomination was highly recommended by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management.

The EPA award program recognizes municipal personnel in the wastewater field who have provided invaluable public service operating wastewater treatment facilities throughout New England. Mr. Burke has been with the Warwick Sewer Authority since 1985 and has been serving as the Superintendent of the wastewater treatment plant for well over 20 years. He has been a dedicated professional protecting the water quality and public health of Rhode Island’s citizens. During the past year, Mr. Burke, along with many others in Warwick and the State of Rhode Island, was instrumental in overseeing the recovery of the entire treatment plant from the devastating spring flood of 2010.

“The professionals managing and operating wastewater treatment plants play a crucial role protecting health in our communities and ensuring that our lakes and rivers are protected from unnecessary pollution,” said Curt Spalding, regional administrator for EPA's New England Office. "I am proud to acknowledge Mr. Burke’s outstanding contributions to help protect public health and Rhode Island’s waterways for so many years.”


West Warwick, R.I. Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent Recognized for Outstanding Service

(Boston, Mass. – Jan. 27, 2011) – Peter Eldridge, Superintendent of the West Warwick, R.I. Wastewater Treatment Plant, was recently honored with the "2010 Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Award" by EPA.

EPA’s New England office formally acknowledged Mr. Eldridge’s contributions during the annual New England Water Environment Association Conference at the Boston Copley Marriott Hotel on January 26th. Mr. Eldridge’s nomination was highly recommended by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management.

Mr. Eldridge has been with the West Warwick Wastewater Treatment Facility for over 20 years and has been serving as the Superintendent for the past three years. Montague, Mass. Water Pollution Control Facility Recognized for Excellence

(Boston, Mass. – Jan. 27, 2011) – The Montague, Mass. Water Pollution Control Facility was recently selected by EPA for a Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Excellence Award.

The entire staff of Montague facility, led by Superintendent Robert Twombley, was recognized by EPA's New England Office for exceptional work in operating and maintaining the wastewater treatment plant and its collection system. The plant was among three facilities in New England acknowledged for exemplary performance during 2010. The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection was instrumental in nominating this facility.

In addition, the facility has been provided with outstanding support from the Town of Montague (Frank Abbondanzio, Town Administrator, and Patricia Allen, Chair of the Board of Selectmen) by allowing the freedom and flexibility for the operators to operate and maintain the plant and collection system to the best of their abilities.

“The professionals operating these wastewater treatment plants, as well as the municipalities and the state environmental agencies that support them, are essential to keeping our communities and our environment healthy. I am proud to give them the credit they deserve,” said Curt Spalding, regional administrator of EPA's New England Office.

The EPA Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Excellence Award was established to recognize and honor the employees of publicly owned wastewater treatment plants for their commitment to improving water quality with outstanding plant operations and maintenance and on-going operator training. More often than not, and particularly with the smaller facilities, conscientious operators and staff continue to perform exceptionally with limited resources.

The Montague Water Pollution Control Facility was acknowledged on January 26th at the annual New England Water Environment Association Conference in Boston.

 

Bangor, Maine Wastewater Treatment Plant Recognized for Excellence

(Boston, Mass. – Jan. 27, 2011) – The Bangor, Maine Wastewater Treatment Plant was recently selected by EPA for a Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Excellence Award.

The entire staff of the Bangor facility, led by Superintendent Bradley Moore, was recognized by EPA's New England Office for exceptional work in operating and maintaining the wastewater treatment plant and its collection system. The plant was among three facilities in New England acknowledged for exemplary performance during 2010.

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection was instrumental in nominating this facility. In addition, the plant has been provided with outstanding support from the City of Bangor (Cathy Conlow, City Manager, and James Ring, Director of Infrastructure) over the years.

“The professionals operating these wastewater treatment plants, as well as the municipalities and the state environmental agencies that support them, are essential to keeping our communities and our environment healthy. I am proud to give them the credit they deserve,” said Curt Spalding, regional administrator of EPA's New England Office.

Jewett City, Conn. Wastewater Treatment Facility Recognized for Excellence

(Boston, Mass. – Jan. 27, 2011) – The Jewett City, Conn. Wastewater Treatment Facility was recently selected by EPA for a Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Excellence Award.

The entire staff of Jewett City facility, led by David Drobiak, Superintendent, was recognized by EPA's New England Office for exceptional work in operating and maintaining the wastewater treatment plant. The plant was among three facilities in New England acknowledged for exemplary performance during 2010.

The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection was very supportive of the nomination for this facility. In addition, the facility has been provided with outstanding support from the Town of Jewett City and the Department of Public Utilities (Kenneth Sullivan, Director).

“The professionals operating these wastewater treatment plants, as well as the municipalities and the state environmental agencies that support them, are essential to keeping our communities and our environment healthy. I am proud to give them the credit they deserve,” said Curt Spaulding, regional administrator of EPA's New England Office.
