Narragansett Water Pollution Control Association Recognized for Outstanding Service
(Boston, Mass. – Feb. 1, 2011) – The Narragansett Water Pollution Control Association (WPCA), comprised of all of the municipal wastewater treatment facilities in Rhode Island, was recently honored with the "2010 Regional State Wastewater Association Excellence Award" by EPA.
The Narragansett WPCA was highly recommended by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management for all of the members’ collaborative efforts to provide assistance to one another during the response and recovery of impacted wastewater treatment facilities during the devastating spring flood of 2010.
The EPA award program recognizes municipal personnel in the wastewater field who have provided invaluable public service operating wastewater treatment facilities throughout New England. In addition, EPA recognizes those groups and entities promoting and advocating for the municipal wastewater profession.
“The professionals managing and operating wastewater treatment plants play a crucial role in protecting public health by ensuring that our lakes and rivers are protected from unnecessary pollution,” said Curt Spalding, regional administrator for EPA's New England Office. "I am proud to acknowledge the Narragansett WPCA for all of their outstanding member contributions during the spring flood of 2010 to help protect public health and Rhode Island’s waterways. This was a fine example of mutual aid demonstrated by the municipal wastewater professionals during trying times, along with assistance from state and federal officials.”
EPA’s New England office formally acknowledged the Narragansett WPCA’s outstanding contributions during the annual New England Water Environment Association Conference at the Boston Copley Marriott Hotel on January 26th. Brent Herring, President of the Narragansett WPCA, accepted the award on behalf of all of its members.
Maine JETCC Employee Recognized for Providing Outstanding Wastewater Operator Training
(Boston, Mass. – Feb. 1, 2011) – Leeann Hanson, Training Coordinator for the Maine Joint Environmental Training Coordinating Committee (JETCC), was recently honored with the "2010 Regional Wastewater Operator Training Provider Excellence Award” by EPA.
The EPA award program recognizes personnel in the wastewater field who have provided invaluable operator training to wastewater treatment operators throughout New England. Since its inception in 1985, the Maine JETCC has been managed by the New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission.
The Maine JETCC is comprised by numerous dedicated professionals from the public sector (e.g. municipal wastewater treatment plant operators, the Maine Dept. of Environmental Protection, the Maine Dept. of Health and Human Services, the Maine Wastewater Control Association, etc.) as well as others from the private sector. The Maine JETCC has been planning and developing relevant and timely wastewater training courses for wastewater treatment plant operators throughout the state of Maine. Ms Hanson has been doing an outstanding job coordinating all of JETCC’s many efforts and has always been in the forefront in improving JETCC’s course offerings to address new initiatives and technologies facing wastewater professionals. In addition, Leeann Hanson has always been proactive in providing interested and committed municipal wastewater operators appropriate management training and other necessary skills for personal improvement to succeed in the industry for the future.

Brockton, Mass. Wastewater Treatment Plant Contract Administrator Recognized for Outstanding Service
(Boston, Mass. – Feb. 1, 2011) – David Norton, the Contract Administrator for the Brockton, Mass. Wastewater Treatment Plant, was recently honored with the "2010 Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Award" by EPA.
The EPA award program recognizes municipal personnel in the wastewater field who have provided invaluable public service operating and maintaining wastewater treatment facilities throughout New England. Mr. Norton has been associated with the City of Brockton’s wastewater treatment facility for nearly 25 years and has been instrumental in overseeing the facility’s recent successful upgrades. He has been a dedicated professional protecting the water quality and public health.
