MEC has been selected from a national pool of applicants to train under-employed and unemployed residents living near brownfields sites in the Kansas City area.
WHAT: News Conference to Announce EPA Brownfields Job Training Grant
WHO: EPA Region 7 Administrator Karl Brooks, Kansas City, Mo., Mayor Sly James, MEC Job Training Project Manager Bob Housh, and last year’s graduates of a similar job training program
WHEN: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 28, 2011
WHERE: Back yard of the MEC Demonstration House, 917 Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard, Kansas City, Mo. 64110. (In the event of rain, this event will be moved to the lobby of the Anita B. Gorman Conservation Discovery Center, 4750 Troost, Kansas City, Mo. 64110.)
The EPA Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training Grant provides an opportunity for local communities and other stakeholders to receive information and technical assistance, and establish green job training opportunities for the improvement of brownfields sites.
Brownfields are real properties, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant.
