Public Meeting on Enbridge Pipeline Spill in Marshall, Michigan, August 17, 6:30 p.m.

(CHICAGO – August 11, 2011) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold a meeting August 17 to provide an update on the cleanup of the 2010 Enbridge Pipeline oil spill in Talmadge Creek and the Kalamazoo River.  The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Marshall Activity Center, 15325 West Michigan Avenue in Marshall.

Since the pipeline break was first reported on July 26, 2010, EPA has worked with state and local agencies to direct the pipeline company’s emergency response and cleanup work, which prevented the spill from reaching Lake Michigan.   Today, EPA continues to lead the cleanup effort, which currently involves more than 700 people performing work on the river.  EPA has incurred $29.1 million in cleanup costs, which Enbridge will be required to reimburse.
