Ali’s “float like a butterfly, sting like a bee” credo described his style inside and outside the ring. He was brash and a showman, and used his fame to champion social causes. For years Ali was probably the most recognizable man on the planet.
Ali was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1984, three years after he retired from the ring. He had been recently hospitalized and was being treated for a respiratory issue, Ali’s spokesman said on Thursday.
