FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

 

(Kansas City, Kan., June 30, 2009) - Representatives of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 7, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services will hold a news conference tomorrow morning to discuss their investigation into the use of leather tannery sludge as fertilizer on farms in northwest Missouri.

 

The agencies have been involved since late April 2009 in a cooperative investigation of the distribution of waste sludge from National Beef Leathers, formerly known as Prime Tanning, in St. Joseph, Mo., to various farms in northwest Missouri for use as fertilizer.

Parking is available on a surface lot directly across 5th Street from the entrance to the EPA Regional Office, directly south across Minnesota Avenue from the Jack Reardon Center.

 

Please note: Due to limited space, admission to this event is reserved for working press only; the general public will not be admitted. Please allow time for your personnel and equipment to clear a security checkpoint at the entrance to the EPA Regional Office.
