(Seattle, Wash.—Jan. 25, 2010) A Seattle-based printing company is being recognized nationally by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its exceptional commitment to green operations.

DCG / West made it to the Top 20 Printers list under EPA’s Green Power Partnership. Coming in at number 17, the company is purchasing nearly 2.6 million kilowatt-hours of green power annually, which is enough green power to meet 100 percent of the organization's purchased electricity use.

DCG / West is buying a utility green power product from Seattle City Light. This purchase demonstrates a proactive choice and a leading commitment to switch away from traditional sources of electricity generation and support cleaner renewable energy alternatives.

According to EPA, DCG / West's green power purchase of nearly 2.6 million kilowatt-hours is equivalent to avoiding the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of nearly 400 passenger vehicles per year, or is the equivalent amount of electricity needed to power more than 200 average American homes annually.

Green power is generated from a subset of renewable resources such as solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, biogas, and low-impact hydropower. Green power electricity generates less pollution than conventional power and produces no net increase in greenhouse gas emissions. These green power purchases support the development of new, renewable generation resources nationwide.

EPA's Green Power Partnership works with more than 1,200 organizations to voluntarily purchase green power to reduce the environmental impacts of conventional electricity use.
