Ten school districts in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska recognized as Energy Star Leaders   Contact: Robert Drake, EPA Energy Star Program, 206-553-4803, drake.robert@epa.gov; Tony Brown, EPA Public Affairs, 206-553-1203, brown.anthony@epa.gov   (Seattle – Feb. 27, 2012) The Environmental Protection Agency announced ten school districts in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska that are among 210 organizations recognized as Energy Star Leaders for building energy efficiency. All Energy Star Leaders have improved building efficiency of all their buildings by at least 10 percent, or consistently had their buildings rank in the top 25 percent for efficient energy use. Many of these schools are well on the way to improving the energy efficiency of their building portfolios by 20 percent or more by 2020, the goal set by President Obama's nationwide call to action to improve the energy performance in buildings.   Here in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska the following school districts have earned Energy Star Leaders status:   ALASKA   Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District, Palmer, Alaska IDAHO Idaho Falls School District 91, Idaho Falls, Idaho Bonneville Joint School District No. 93, Idaho Falls, Idaho Independent School District No. 1, Lewiston, Idaho WASHINGTON   Evergreen School District, Vancouver, Washington Ferndale School District, Ferndale, Washington Bethel School District, Spanaway, Washington Lake Stevens School District, Lake Stevens, Washington   OREGON   Beaverton School District, Beaverton, Oregon Gresham-Barlow School District No. 10 Jt., Gresham, Oregon   For additional information about these ten school districts, visit: http://www.energystar.gov/ia/business/leaders/Leaders_full_list_2011.pdf?2758-99c7 To be eligible for ENERGY STAR Leaders recognition, organizations must track energy performance data using EPA’s ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager Tool. They must also meet one of two energy efficiency improvement milestones: at least a 10 percent improvement in energy performance across their entire building portfolio, or their building portfolio on average, must perform in the top 25 percent of similar buildings nationwide.
